maddies poem FINAL

*****

Dancing means more to me than most can imagine.

It is my safe haven, my passion, my only way of truly expressing all the emotions in my life and so, T.I.D.E in a way, has become MY HOME.

At the moment, I am taking five classes a week; Contemporary, Jazz, including performance group and Classical Ballet. Even at 14, when it becomes a greater juggle to balance the pressures of student life and to pursuit a passionate interest, I see in the eyes of my fellow senior students, that same love of the art that I know is reflected in mine. Equally, on Saturday mornings, tired- looking pre- primary and primary students, will wake up early to get their hair ready into tiny little buns, uniformed and with ballet shoes and arrive to go to class, only to emerge 45mins later, so full of energy that they could dance all day!

I started Ballet, term two of this year. I am full of excitement but extremely nervous. It is something that I have wanted to try for some time now because I know, that, the technique I learn in Ballet will give me a stronger foundation for all my other genre’s. I am still progressing slowly, learning the basic technique that will make my dancing stronger, but I can see that with my teachers help I can reach all my goals.

This last week I bought my first pair of ballet shoes, (I was borrowing an old pair from one of my friends in the class, up till then). I bought them to the studio, where Kathy made sure they had been fitted properly. She sewed on my ribbons personally, knowing that I would have no idea how to do so myself. Once they were ready her daughter Zoe showed me how to tie my ribbons properly.

Kathy is the director and owner of the school; she has started the business so that she can work with children and nurture their love for an art that she herself loves so much. She is some one I look up to and one of my dearest wishes is to live my life with the purpose that she lives hers. It is with this clear purpose that she runs her school; she is determined to give the best to every student who walks in her door. I know for a fact that she is the reason that parents keep bringing their children to the studio year after year it is clear from day one that Kathy is the most genuine, kind, caring person and that she intends to give one-hundred precent into the training of every dancer.

After all my experiences at T.I.D.E, I can only come to the conclusion that dance is my passion and I would never want to learn any place else. I love it here, with the students, teachers and Kathy who have all become family to me”.
